Travelling, Food and Beer - a great threesome
So says Laurens, our F&B manager (we don’t let him travel so no T, F & B for him) and he advises you to go to one of Amsterdam’s city breweries.

For example Brouwerij ‘t IJ (pictured above, with a windmill) or Brouwerij Prael or Brouwerij de 7 Deugden. The latter two city breweries work with people with disabilities, so not only lovely beer but also a good cause.

Laurens tells us, “It’s not wine & dine anymore, it’s beer & dine. Many cafés brew their own beers, or have a special beer that is brewed only for them. This beer culture is new and upcoming in Amsterdam, and I love it!”  The last time he went there, he was with a group of women, all enjoying the sun and an ‘IJwit’ beer. He ensures it is definitely not just for men. But he doesn’t let us know what happened after a few beers with this group of women which is worrying…

Anyway if, unlike Laurens, you don’t like beer, try Wynand Fockink; the oldest spirit and liqueur distillery in Amsterdam, really close to Dam Square. Since 1679 they’ve been making and serving their drinks in a special way - no music, no craziness, just tasting and enjoying. Laurens, again, “you can’t lift up your glass for the first sip, as they fill it to the brim. It’s a rule and a tradition!” So you have bend over your glass and slurp. Sounds messy and fun.

Where? Pijlsteeg 31
When? ANYTIME! Oh well, you need to be 18+ years old.
