In case you are looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, you might want to check out the Hortus Botanicus. Here you will find a wide range of (tropical) plants, 4000 different kinds to be precise. The gardens and greenhouses of Hortus host plants from 7 (!) different climates, a pond, a herb garden with medicinal plants, a butterfly garden and a café with the greenest terrace of Amsterdam.
Fun fact, the garden was created by the municipality of Amsterdam in 1638 as a place to train doctors and pharmacists. Many of the current plants have been there since the opening! feeling young already?
Hortus Botanicus is open daily from 10:00-17:00. Visit their website to find out more about the tickets, guided tours and children activities.
There's many ways to get there. By tram: 9 or 14, get off at Mr. Visserplein. By metro: 51, 53 or 54: get off at Waterlooplein (exit Hortusplantsoen). Or go by bike, ask your hosts about our rental bikes.
